What’s new in multidrug-resistant pathogens in the ICU?
Over the last several decades, antibacterial drug use has become widespread with their misuse being an ever-increasing phenomenon. Consequently, antibacterial drugs have become less effective or even ineffective, resulting in a global health security emergency. The prevalence of multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) varies widely among regions and countries. The primary aim of antibiotic stewar...
متن کاملPrevalence of Class 2 Integrons in Multidrug-Resistant Acinetobacter Baumannii in Toxicological ICU Patients in Tehran
Background: Acinetobacter baumannii is an important opportunistic pathogen which causes complications in hospitalized patients, especially those in ICU. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of class 1 and 2 integrons in multi-drug resistance A. baumannii and to investigate the association between the presence of integrons and antibiotic resistance patterns. Methods: A total of...
متن کاملMultidrug-Resistant Pathogens in Hospitalized Syrian Children
Since 2013, wounded and ill children from Syria have received treatment in Israel. Screening cultures indicated that multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens colonized 89 (83%) of 107 children. For 58% of MDR infections, the pathogen was similar to that identified during screening. MDR screening of these children is valuable for purposes of isolation and treatment.
متن کاملMultidrug-resistant bacteria transmitted through high-density EEG in ICU
PURPOSE Prevention of multidrug resistant (MDR) bacterial contamination remains a major challenge in ICUs. Many hospital outbreaks involving MDR transmitted through environmental contamination have been reported. Bedside high-density EEG allow for dynamic cognitive evaluation in brain-injured patients and is used more and more frequently in clinical practice to evaluate brain function and predi...
متن کاملThe Incidence of Amikacin Ototoxicity in Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis Patients
Amikacin has been shown to irreversibly suppressCochlear activity. The aim of this study is to assess the incidence of amikacinototoxicity in multidrug-resistant tuberculosis patients and riskfactors associated withthis ototoxicity. In this cross-sectional study, 41 patientswith multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) were included. All patients received fixed dose of intravenous amikacin(500 mg...
